Damhead was established in 1989, when organic food production was in its infancy. We started the business because of our interest in good food and a concern at the obvious problems associated with intensive agriculture, and have since used our 7 acre site to grow only certified organic produce.
Growing at Damhead for over 20 Years | | We are very much a family business and our strength is based on our determination to offer continuity of service.
The new generation in the form of son in law, Steve, has now taken over the running of Damhead and as his children grow no doubt they will be roped in to help too! | Our farm and packing facilities are fully certified by the BDAA (biodynamic agricultural association) and as such are inspected annually for organic compliance.
Our land is grade 2 arable and we aim to constantly improve the quality of the soil by practising good composting and crop rotation. Altough we do not have any livestock we keep a few pigs to assist with the clearing of ground and vegetable waste recycling.
The variety of crops grown such as salads, beans, squashes, courgettes, leeks, spinach, chard and kale are chosen with care to avoid replication of those grown by other local organic farmers. In this way we are able to offer an exceptionally wide range of top quality local produce. |
